The Separateness Of Trees

Ancient trees,
sentinels guarding
a pathway,
form an arch,
a bright, dappled corridor
of living beauty.

Bowed branches
ache to touch leaf tips,
to entwine
and caress
for a moment each other's
foliage fingers.

Their embrace,
broken by the breeze,
marks the end
of Summer.
Fall will paint its glory till
sap-filled veins turn sere.
