On Friendship

Thanks to a chain of Bloggy information, I have today learned of the death of Dave King, after Brian at d'Verse paid tribute to the friendship which had been struck up between them. I too was privileged to number Dave among my Blogpals, and have decided to post these lines, written in the past few days, for friendship lies at the heart of them as well.

You and I have never met,
and yet...

there is inside my mind
a place where reality blurs,
where my ears have learned
the mysteries of your voice,
and heard tales of your life
that I recognise...

yes, almost remember...

as though we had lived in unison,
although in separate worlds.

Bridges span our thoughts,
and words
link us each to the other
in some time out of time
where speech-streams mingle,
until we become a river in full flood,
and I know that I am home.

  2. I am saddened, all over again. I learned of Dave's passing shortly after his son posted the news. We knew he was in failing health, yet the realization of never reading his poetry, basking in the glow of a comment he left .. heartbreaking. I plan on composing a Dave memorial poem as well, just haven't had the heart (or ability) to begin. Thank you, Penny.

  3. A great tribute ... I recall when I heard it... and it made me sad, but even more sad reading how much he had meant. The fact that we exist here and then people leave... what has happened....

  5. Very touching poem, Jinksy. Dave was a very special man. There cannot be too many tributes written. I think his death highlights how much people of the blogosphere really become part of each other's lives.....

  6. Very nice. I don't think it matters much when you 'only know' someone online, feelings are very much so involved. :-)

  8. Agreed that this is a great tribute--but it also speaks to me as a poet swimming in that stream. We can recognize each other.

  11. Those last few lines are stunning and really acknowledge this bond poet bloggers share... how many would have heard his beautiful voice, his thoughts, his creativity if he had not blogged? I myself would probably have only written maybe 25 poems not the 500 +. My creativity is not shared with most of my family - and so I probably would have stopped long ago. Dave King left a few very nice comments and I learned from him. Yes, one day, a river in full flood.... lovely.

  13. This is so kind. It is amazing how connected we feel, the truth of friendships developed online through poetry and life experiences shared through story and photos.
