“I’ve not telephoned you for a long time –
this is a dreadful line –
can you hear me
clearly, Rosemary?”
“What’s that?
You’re not Rosemary? “
Where is she then?
Oh...dead!
Pardon my mirth - IGWRT wanted a 30 word drama , and I couldn't resist a little black humour. Sorry!
Such is the price of procrastination! Maybe I should make a few phone calls today.
ReplyDeleteNothing I love more than black humor! Excellent!
ReplyDeleteOh, my gosh, this made me laugh out loud. I haven't exactly been in the described situation, but as visiting nurse, have made that phone call to set up a visit with a patient only to get the response--"You can't see him, today. He died last night." Nothing quite like cheerfully asking to speak to someone and finding out he's dead now--especially if you just saw him a few days before and everything seemed fine.
ReplyDeleteoh, man.
ReplyDeleteSometimes "for a long time" comes too late!
ReplyDeleteSurprise is an element that works!
ReplyDeleteLoved this and had to chuckle!

Ouch. Death does get the last word at times--but not when love is involved.
ReplyDeleteThis does tell a real tale and makes one want to make all the calls soon! Sad story.
ReplyDeleteBlack as black can be!!!!
